• Pros: Great sound, quality construction, and true bypass.
• Cons: Not as versatile as many pedals.
• Overall: Worth every dead president in your wallet to possess.
Electro-Harmonix’s Holy Grail Plus is the middleground pedal in the EH line. It’s the bridge between their renowned Holy Grail, and the mind-blowing and majestic Cathedral.
The Holy Grail Plus adds a Room setting to the mix. It sounds so incredible, so full-bodied and graceful, you’ll wish you had another pair of ears. The Grail Plus also has more knobs (Blend, from dry to wet; Amount, which adjusts the amount of reverb being added, and Reverb, which adjusts the type of reverb). Not stereo on this unit, only mono in/out, which is a slight drawback, but still the thing sounds mean.
The pedal’s settings are Spring, Room, Hall, and Flerb. All sounds on the Holy Grail Plus are the same overpowering quality as the EH Cathedral, and will turn your brain into a happy sugar-cube after one listen. Options for tweaking the tone are fewer than the mighty Cathedral. Personally, that ain’t a drawback: I’d prefer the amount of tweakability on the Grail Plus, as the Cathedral has just too much under the hood for most humans to handle.
A spendy pedal? Yup. Worth every Benjamin you plunk down? Hell yeah! If you’re dreaming of absolutely smoking, golden sounds coming out of your axe, head out on a quest to bring back this Holy Grail.
